  • The magnificent mother-of-pearl inlaid wooden sarcophagus laid in the middle of the dome-covered octagonal tomb belongs to Osman Gazi. Moreover, there are sarcophaguses of Savci Bey son of Sultan Murad I, Alaaddin Bey son of Orhan Gazi, Aspurce Hatun wife of Orhan Gazi and Ibrahim Bey son of Orhan Gazi and 12 unidentified sarcophaguses are also in the tomb.

During the siege of Bursa, Osman Gazi indicated his son Orhan Gazi a domed structure within the city and spoke his last will” My son, bury me under that silver dome in Bursa when I die.” This silver dome building is the chapel of the Saint Elie Monastery located at the left hand side of the entrance of Tophane Park. The Chapel was turned into a tomb after the conquest of Bursa and according to his will, Osman Gazi was buried in. The tomb was completely destroyed during the earthquake in 1855. And was rebuilt in the time of Abdulaziz in 1863. The reason why the tomb once was called as Davullu Monastery is that a large drum and prayer beads given as gift to Osman Gazi by the Seljuk Sultan Alaaddin were exhibited there. This place is assumed to have been destroyed by fires and earthquakes.
