The tomb and hermitage is dated back to 13th century. They were constructed following his death in what was formerly a cemetery, now called the Şems Park, in the northern side of Şerafettin Masjid. The building of today was restored and extended by Emir Ishak Bey, son of Abdürrezzak, in 1510.
Şems-i Tebrîzî who was born in Tabriz in 1185 is the son of Ali the son of Melik Dad. Drawing attention with the ability he had shown in the spiritual sciences during his younger ages, Şems-i Tebrîzî was called as Şemseddin, which means “the Sun of the religion,” and became the disciple of Ebubekir Sellaf of Tabriz in his very young ages and tried to get enlightened from the famous Sheikhs he had heard their fames and was also called as Şemseddin Perende (Flying Şemseddin) as he travelled all around a lot.
Şems, upon a spiritual sign searched for Mevlâna and found him Konya. Şems contributed to open new horizons in Mevlâna’s life as the result of their accompanying which lasted three and a half year and managed to make him a perfect Lover of God unsoldering him in the pot of divide love.

The tomb is adjacent to the masjid section and with plan roof from the inside and covered with pyramidal cone placed on an octagonal belt from outside. Porch-like tomb is opened to the masjid through a Bursa arch decorated with hand carving. On the other sides is one window each-one below, one above. Its ceiling is decorated with geometrical motives. In the cellar is the corps room and a well.
